There are so many…

During the past few weeks I have been struggling with anger, resentment, and frustration with my fellow Americans. It feels like around every corner there are people being spiteful, hateful, and selfish. At times I want to shout at them:

“Why don’t you understand?”

”Why don’t you care about other people?”

”How can you be so stupid?”

But this week I started to open my eyes and see something else. There are so many people who are quietly doing the right thing, the hard thing, the uncomfortable thing. There are so many who are wearing masks even though it is itching their nose or making it a bit harder to breath. There are so many who are still practicing physical distancing this many months into the pandemic, even though they crave the connection that human touch can provide. There are so many that are limiting their activities like shopping, traveling, school events, and religious services. There are so many people sacrificing for their neighbors and community. And there are so many people fighting back with creativity and innovation to find solutions on how to live our lives in this new world order. And while none of us is getting it perfect, so many are trying hard.

So yes, there are people who are making me angry. There are a vocal minority who are making a lot of noise. Yes, there are propagators of misinformation for unknown secondary gain. But there are so many who aren’t. I’m going to spend some time thinking about those people and feel proud.
